If you’ve got stitching friends, then this probably makes you giggle just a little bit (or maybe more than a little bit…)
A few weekends ago, I stole away to Canton, SD (don’t blink)…to an amazing little bank turned quilting retreat: aka heaven on earth (or as their slogan says…Piece in Peace). Don’t tell the quilters, but the stitchers invaded their turf for the weekend.
I’m not sure…which one of looks like the bad influence?!?
This was my stitching project for the weekend… a teaching piece (Harmony in Autumn) to accompany the seasonal ‘Little House on a Pincushion’ series.

It’s always good to have friends that cook well (I think I get invited for entertainment value…not a good cook here…)
We ate well. I’m going to include some recipe links here:

While we had lots of yummy food (this place has a full kitchen – we divide up the meals and take turns with clean-up), the baked oatmeal, asparagus egg bake (even better the 2nd morning) and roasted green beans were highlights for me!
I snapped this early morning pic – lots of natural light, beautiful quilts surround us – yes, that is one of the bank vaults (it still holds valuable items…that’s where we go to restock the TP in the bathrooms!)
Big comfy chairs in the living room – we all used the morning hours to catch up on news with a cup of coffee.
Someone always gets ambitious & shows up with handmade goodness – these hold special meaning. Paula used her Downton Abbey fabrics to make our trivets. The 1st year we had this weekend – it snowed deliciously outside as we sat inside the warm studio stitching & watching the DA dvd we found on the shelf. It was easy to think of us as the genteel women spending our days embroidering (but then you need to remind yourself of that opening photo!!) 🙂
Thanks for joining me on my retreat memory: I hope that you are fortunate to have those special stitching friends…be they in your hometown or online far across the country (I have those too!)
On this eve of Thanksgiving, I hope you have time tomorrow with family & friends,
Enjoy the stitch,
cathy
