LET LOVE GROW

January 31, 2024 By Cathy Habermann 9 Comments

Let LOVE Grow

It’s that time of year again… our wedding anniversary & what has become a Hands On Design tradition – the token of love.

I present Let LOVE Grow – I was afraid it would come across a little too much ‘live, laugh, love’ (insert eye roll here), but I have some very good reasons for this year’s design.

  • First – it’s round! Of course it’s round! 2023 was a round finish kind of year for me, it only makes sense that I would finish it round – I can’t wait to see how YOU finish it!
  • Second – over 1! Yep – I discovered that I like designing ‘over 1’. Just a smidge of the design is over 1 if you want to give it a try (& yes, I designed an ‘over 2’ version!)
  • Third – it’s the ‘grow’ in Let Love Grow – our family grew this year as we celebrated the wedding of our youngest son to his beautiful bride!

Just a peek at the beach wedding – see those smiles…I smile just like that every time I think of this day – it was perfect!

I chose a sweet coordinating fabric for the back & a soft DMC palette to coordinate with this gorgeous Belfast linen. I like a classic finish packed with the personal. I hand stitched some narrow twill ribbon that I had in my stash & fastened a bow with a hat pin that was my grandmothers. See a few photos below for the edge detail.

I hand stitched narrow ribbon to cover the edge where I whip stitched the front to the back. Note the angle of the needle – I wanted to create some texture with large X’s on the ribbon. (this is the 1st trip around the circle)

Once around the circle, whip stitch all of the layers of ribbon at the top to secure – we will be covering this with the bow.

I stitched a return journey around the circle to complete my X’s. It’s difficult to see since I used a tone-on-tone ribbon & floss – I really like the subtle texture.

Here’s to 36 years of growing our love.

The colors (brown & green) are used in distinctly separate areas of the chart & are easily discernible.

My sincere apologies for the charting mishap.

Thank you to the shops that came & continue to support my design work as well as the fabric & thread dyers (& those that cut amazing shapes from wood 😉) that I am fortunate to work alongside.

A big thank you to Yarn Tree for once again hosting Market!

I can’t believe that I finally get to share this s I can’t believe that I finally get to share this special project❤️ - the mystery market release is revealed!

‘I’m New Here’ - not just a baby sampler, we’re calling it a Baby Story - a sweet saying that I was inspired to write not long after we found out that we were going to be grandparents!

The small ornament is perfect for the newly born- I’ve included alternative skin tone palettes for those tiny tootsies as well as an alphabet and numbers for personalization.

Many thanks to @chantelles141 for working behind the scenes with me to create the Baby on Board finishing boards. The DMC palette is also easy to customize.

We did not share any of the design details before market and asked shops to ‘do their thing’ - a great many came home with charts for you!! We thank them for their support!
