‘Crafty Cathy’ comes out to play!

November 28, 2016 By Cathy Habermann 5 Comments

Nothing says Happy Thanksgiving like a little Arts & Crafts…right?

Like a lot of stories I tell these days, it starts like this: I saw a picture on Pinterest…

1128crafts

The ingredients: my new favorite tag punch (the big green thingy), baker’s twine (I have every color!), Christmas cards that I bought 2 years ago & never used (it’s the thought that counts…right?), my latest Button Lover’s Club – Scarlet arrived just in time, and various needles, paper scissors & regular old hole punch.

(can’t forget my 2 willing helpers…Billy & Chris were home for the holiday)

1128cutoutsBilly used my giant tag paper punch & went to work on the Christmas cards. We got about 4 out of each card so I have some cards left (but don’t wait by the mailbox…). He then took the regular hole punch & put 2 holes in the top of each tag.

1128measuringWhile Billy punched away, Chris ‘measured’ how much baker’s twine we would need for the mantel.

1128projectSo now we have tags, buttons & twine! (I did use a large needle to thread the twine – it made going through the buttons & tags easier)

1128designlayoutThis picture makes me so happy! As a kid, I spent hours sitting on the floor playing with colorforms, drawing & coloring large posters. Chris layed out the garland design…

1128buttonsI asked him what he was doing – ‘layering the buttons’…swoon, he’s a natural!

1128chrisPutting the garland together!

1128doggieTaking a doggie break…

1128billyBilly started a second project: buttoned garland!

1128garland3We just cut a length of twine & threaded buttons every so often…love the way it turned out!

1128garland2Both projects were a win!

1128testrunTesting it on the mantel!

1128tadaaTA-DAA!

I think it turned out very well…maybe even Pinterest-worthy!

Thanks for joining me on my craft caper…more holiday decorating pics next time!

Enjoy the stitch!

No stitchy posts this weekend- I get to be Mom all No stitchy posts this weekend- I get to be Mom all weekend. Billy just got home from an amazing trip out west where he got to white water raft, ride a gondola, hike in a national park (where they saw all kinds of wildlife), swim, go to a real rodeo, go on an alpine rail, make new friends and so much more.

I missed him so much (even though he doesn’t live with us every day…yep, the mom in me knew he was far away 😊) - we are so thankful to the Let’s Go West team for planning & documenting this trip. He’s staying on with us a few more days …I was even excited to do his laundry!?!?🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

A little 'down-time' between HOD models, I started A little 'down-time' between HOD models, I started Harvest Lilies from my good friend Tracy @inkcircles.xs - I switched up the linen for 32ct Rosewood @fabrics.by.steph & called for threads with Sulky 12wt. I do have a yellow pulled for the negative space that looks kinda quilty. I'm thinking about leaving it like it is...what do you think?
