Every day as a cross-stitch designer brings with it a different to-do list! Fortunately I live for to-do lists!
Sometimes it’s packing & shipping, finishing & charting, or photographing & bookkeeping.
You might notice that one thing isn’t mentioned…designing!
Designing is happening all of the time! You know those FB meme’s that say ‘my brain has too many tabs open’?…yep, that’s me!!
I took a little photo journey of a class piece I will be teaching this November at Stitch by Stitch in Cape May, NJ.
Design themes and ideas come whenever & wherever…sometimes while you’re on the phone or ticking things off the to-do list…so you have to keep that list with it’s random messages…even the errant coffee stain?
More lists, more ideas…I keep every scrap of paper through this process cause you never know what I was thinking!
When I design with a certain finish in mind…I spend time making a demo (that’s the architect & engineer part of my job!)
There are always edits and updates to the design. Sometimes the design closely resembles the initial sketch & other times, not so much! This is usually about the time I’m making final color selections.
It does help to stitch some test patches. I’m usually looking here to see if the colors play off of each other the way I need them to.
Now the fun part! I get to stitch the model. I will plan to take a lot of pictures through the finishing process so I have options to show when I write my instructions!
I’m looking forward to spending time with my students. It is so much fun to see their delight when they leave class with a completed piece!
See you soon Cape May!
Enjoy the stitch!
