WILD SALT AIR – CORNER GAUGE POCKET – FINISHING TUTORIAL

August 31, 2018 By Cathy Habermann Leave a Comment

Wild Salt Air – Corner Gauge Pocket

I hope that you enjoyed stitching Wild Salt Air! The beach has always been a Happy Place for me. I have many childhood memories of summers at the shore. Even now, as I live completely land-locked in the middle of the country, I am able to daydream & take a ‘beach break’ – it’s one of my very favorite themes to design around.

Enough daydreaming – let’s get started finishing your corner gauge pocket. Print here to keep this for a later time.

Gather your pressed Corner Gauge finish & 3 pieces of coordinating cotton fabric. A sewing machine will come in very handy here for this quick finish, but hand-stitching will also work.

Trim all 4 pieces to 4 1/8”. I found it was easier to cut the cotton fabric first, then take one piece & center it over the stitching (hold it up to the light to check if its centered), then trim stitching to 4 1/8”.

Place 2 pieces of the cotton fabric, right sides together, & sew a seam 1/4” away from the edge.

Place the stitching & remaining piece of cotton fabric right sides together & sew a seam 1/4” away from the top edge of the stitched piece

Press seam up, away from the linen on stitched piece & in the opposite direction on the all cotton piece.

Match center seams (pressed sides should snug up together to help match the seam) and pin with right sides together. Sew around all 4 sides with a 1/4” seam allowance. Leave an opening on the short end (all cotton end).

Trim corners & turn right side out. Gently poke out corners & press.

Tuck top fabric down into square to form lining for the Corner Gauge keeper.

Finger press all around the top edge to give it a crisp finish.

You are done – all ready to Dream of the Sea & the Wild Salt Air!

Please Note – the Dream of the Sea corner gauge shown in the photos was commissioned specifically for the shop that initially sold this project as a kit. Retromantic Fripperies sells other corner gauges that would be the perfect complement to your project. This stitch would also finish beautifully as a fob or ornament, flat finish or pillow. – c

No stitchy posts this weekend- I get to be Mom all No stitchy posts this weekend- I get to be Mom all weekend. Billy just got home from an amazing trip out west where he got to white water raft, ride a gondola, hike in a national park (where they saw all kinds of wildlife), swim, go to a real rodeo, go on an alpine rail, make new friends and so much more.

I missed him so much (even though he doesn’t live with us every day…yep, the mom in me knew he was far away 😊) - we are so thankful to the Let’s Go West team for planning & documenting this trip. He’s staying on with us a few more days …I was even excited to do his laundry!?!?🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

A little 'down-time' between HOD models, I started A little 'down-time' between HOD models, I started Harvest Lilies from my good friend Tracy @inkcircles.xs - I switched up the linen for 32ct Rosewood @fabrics.by.steph & called for threads with Sulky 12wt. I do have a yellow pulled for the negative space that looks kinda quilty. I'm thinking about leaving it like it is...what do you think?
